I did the same thing yesterday and I have the same problem! I wish I had the room (and the money!) for a much larger fridge. If I ever had either, I'd get a subzero in a heartbeat. When this fridge dies and we have to buy a new one, I want a bottom freezer, preferably one with French refrigerator doors.

Me too! This is our third side-by-side and, honestly, I don't get all the hoopla about them. They don't hold large objects, the space is limited and the freezer...well, let's just say I'm glad we have a full-sized freezer in the garage.

The only saving grace is the automatic icemaker and water dispenser in the door. Oh, ok, there is another good point..it is the stainless steel finish and it is beautiful. Adds a lot to the kitchen.

The year after we bought this, Sears came out with the French doors, freezer on the bottom and water/ice in the door.

It's way too new to replace. Maybe by the time we need another, the designs will be even better.

We kept our old fridge for what will be the garage once we finish the remodel. It's a 20 year old GE but it still works. My mom and dad have a GE their laundry room that they got when I was a baby.

The automatic icemaker and water in the door is my favorite feature as well. We drink a lot of water and before we lived here, we lived in an apartment and bought jugs and jugs of it. I bought like 4 or 5 gallons a week, plus the smaller bottles to take to work. I didn't trust the water in the tap, but I love the taste of the water from the fridge. Buying a Pur water filter every six months or so is much cheaper than gallons and gallons of water. Plus, I use a heck of a lot less plastic now, so I feel better about that.

And I love automatic ice maker with the crushed option. I love crushed ice.

But yeah, I don't get all of the hoopla about the side-by-side either, other than it looks better aesthetically. It does hold a lot of condiments in the door, and mine is fairly roomy in the fridge section, but not so much in the freezer section. That's a bit of a joke.

My parents had an OLD Philco that they put in the basement after they got a bigger fridge. That Philco never stopped working. Had a tiny ice compartment so they bought a chest freezer, which was also in the basement.

They don't make things like they use to. We have had the repair person out 5 times for the icemaker since we bought our fridge. Drives me crazy! They said there were some 'faulty' parts that were installed. I thought they had replaced all of them but last month we had it go out again!

Just in case, I keep a bag of store bought ice in the freezer.

Mom and Dad have had their old GE freeze up a couple of times, but if they unplug it and it thaws out it's ready to go again. We have always had good luck with GE products (knock on wood) that's why I bought the monogram range.
