Rep Power: 10 | Times sure have changed. Once we were at school, you couldn't leave the campus. We had a security guard and teachers that would patrol the parking lot to be sure of it. Rarely did anyone even try to leave. There wasn't any need.
Our schools had the best food and many selections. Not like today. You couldn't find a vending machine anywhere on the property. The drink of choice was milk and that was it. Soda was only on special occasions.
I see our local schools now offer a salad bar everyday. From what I heard, it is a big hit with students.

Rep Power: 10 | We could leave in High School, but the school I went to followed a modular schedule like what you would have in college. Some days my classes were over at noon. Others I didn't have to be there till 10 or 11.
My kids schools have salad bars. They like that option when the school has something they don't want. Mine complain that their meat sauce for spaghetti is the same thing they put on tacos and use in hot dog chili. (aka hot dog sauce to our Yankee friends) |

Rep Power: 4 | I guess they are going to start treating them like liquor stores?

Rep Power: 2 | Growing up in rural Maine, we had it good. Seven towns sent their kids to my high school and we still had only 200 students (freshmen-senior). We had a kitchen full of French (Canadian) ladies that could cook some good food!!!! We always looked forward to thanksgiving, they really did a nice job. There was only one vending machine and it sold juice. They also sold lunch a-la-carte, but still homemade food (subs, salads, cookies etc..). It was 15 miles to the nearest fast food.

Rep Power: 10 | Our hot lunches consisted of a couple of turkey dinner lunches during the month.
They would roast whole turkeys and you could smell them throughout the school. We couldn't wait for lunchtime!
It was only 35 cents and you would get the turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, corn, roll, cranberry sauce and a carton of milk. What a deal that was! Our lunch ladies were THE best.
