Some Taste recipes we published in the past year, of course, are better than others, and those are the ones we're focusing on today — the keepers that made their way from newsprint or online into our readers' permanent recipe files.
Or, if they didn't, they should have.
Some of these are recipes that readers called to our attention; others are favorites of the Taste staff. All are good enough for a second look. Enjoy, with our best wishes, for a Taste-filled 2008.

I love it when a recipe not only tastes good, but is good for you. Of all the recipes we've published this year, a low-fat version of asparagus-leek soup from Jeanne Jones is the one I've made most frequently. It was called to my attention by readers who praised its satisfying flavor.......

Ack, some of these newspapers have the most disturbing ads on their sidebars. Who would advertise pimple cream, complete with a picture of huge, juicy pimples, on a page with recipes!

I didn't see that ad. They did have an ad of a woman who definitely has seen more than her share of the sun. All wrinkly and they want you to buy cream to get rid of those wrinkles. There isn't enough cream in the world to get those wrinkles to vanish...it was ugly! If nothing else, it makes me very happy to be sun-free.
