Most of my friends, male and female, here in the US can cook pretty well. In my circle of friends in Germany though, it is often the guy who cooks and the girl never touches the stove. It is almost as though embracing home arts will label her as submissive, a throw back to the 1960s and negate all her accomplishments in life. My husband bought into that idea too. Often he will say he doesn't want me to cook, we should order out. He doesn't understand that cooking is a pleasure for me; he sees it only as drudge work.

Most of my friends would rather I cook for them. They love my cooking and are planning a party where they all pitch in $$$'s so I will make them an Italian feast. I will LOVE it! I'm in my element in the kitchen.
What a great idea!

I usually throw one big party every year, it is rare that someone turns down the invitation, which is really flattering. I usually cook for 2 days and love every minute of it. Last years party was to combine my partner and my birthdays it was a blast, we usually go out to a good restaurant but decided to have it at home last year because some of the guests were having some money issues, we may do the party again this year.

I also do small dinner parties throughout the year.

Gotta love the bargain bin, I'm on a tight budget but we eat very well, for little money. My store marks down meat that is going out of date the next day, I usually save at least 50% if it is already on sale, they take 30% off, I take it home and cook it, or vacuum seal and freeze!

My wife couldn't boil water when we married, my Mother changed all that. Now all my children take part in the kitchen. My oldest is quite the cook.

On the other hand, when I go to the grocery I am amazed at what I see in the carts. Frozen, boxed, etc. meals. Then, driving home, you drive by all the resturants .....whole bunch of people not cooking.

When my brother first got married his wife tried to bake a box of frosting mix thinking it was a cake. I don't think they even make frosting mix anymore.

He has married her again and this second go round for them seems to be going great. And she can cook now.
