Veggie brats?

MADISON, Wis. - While the organizers of Madison's Brat Fest try to set a weekend record for brats consumed, another brat group has more modest expectations.

The Alliance for Animals has teamed up with Whole Foods to offer tofurkey beer brats at the Veggie Brat Fest across town. Organizers say veggie brats are a healthier and more humane way to enjoy bratwurst, but they acknowledge it'll be hard for the trend to catch on in Wisconsin.

Organizers handed out more than 600 veggie brats Saturday.

That's less than one percent of the estimated 96,000 brats consumed by Saturday at the annual Johnsonville World's Largest Brat Fest. Organizers there hope to sell 200,000 brats by the time the festival ends Monday. That would top the 2004 record by about 10,000 brats.

Haven't tried those, but do enjoy the products by Morning Star. Their sausage (no meat) pattie for breakfast is very good.

I would rather eat the veggies still in veggie form as a side dish.

boy some people will go to lengths to try to shove their point of view across, great for people who just want to be vegetarians but eat your vegetables and keep it to yourself. Did you hear that carrot scream when you pull it out of the ground ? Sometimes and we will leave it at that.

I love vegetables, but the alternative patties and sausages are really quite good. They usually add tofu, which you don't taste.

I bought some of those veggie brats (Tofurkey brand, I think) at Trader Joe's a few months ago...they weren't very good. I like Boca burgers and stuff like that...but this was awful!

True...Boca and Morning Star are both very good. I've tried some of the 'off' brands and have to agree, they aren't very good.

I love Boca and Morning Star...their stuff is pretty yummy! I tried the Boca "chicken" nuggets and their "chicken" sandwich patties and you can't even tell that it isn't real chicken. It is pretty weird how they do that....
