That is a nice thing about our local grocery chain HEB is that they use local produce and also use the farms and farmers in their adds. I know the buyers travel to Chile for produce in the off season here. So we know it is usually two places here or Chile, or it is marked on the tags place of origin.

I now save the tags off all produce I buy and stick it on the side of the fridge that no one can see. Besides dating and marking all things I freeze. Between this and organizing recycling, it's surprising I have any spare time anymore!

considering Wal-Mart's reputation for their buying practices, this may not be a good thing.

I often wonder if the price of oil stays high, will we be eating more "in season" local produce since the stuff that has to be shipped thousands of miles will be so expensive.
