Rep Power: 3 | The math.... As food costs soar, it's back to basics for meal planners Vineland Daily Journal, NJ - 4 hours ago They said they have noticed an increase in the cost of milk, fruits and vegetables, meat, bread and eggs. "The biggest problem is the food prices are not ...
Food prices, from the article, has risen 4%. So 4% on a $100 grocery bill is $4. That's breaking all these folks?

Rep Power: 1 | I say this all the time, if these gas and food prices are bankrupting you than you were on the edge, living above your means, and headed for financial disaster anyway.
There are exceptions like job loss, the elderly who cannot bring in extra cash, but for the average Joe and Jane, it should be a wake up call.
Just my humble opinion

Rep Power: 1 | What the heck was that woman spending $1,100 a month on for groceries?!?
And if the idiots would stop driving all over town, going to 4 stores to do grocery shopping, their tanks of gas would last a lot longer, saving them more in the long run. "Look, honey. I may have burned an extra quarter tank of gas, but I saved an extra quarter on these cookies. It was sooo worth it."
But I think my favorite part is the woman who'll be "eating dog food next." What a joke! |

Rep Power: 10 | Apparently these people do not know how to shop. I haven't had to cut back on anything. You can make incredible meals out of fresh vegetables and you don't have to skimp on meat, if you know how to shop.
$1,100 for three people a month is insane! Really wonder what she was buying...caviar? Must have been the higher-end, specialty grocery store.
See, here's another idea for a show. It could be called, "Let's Go Shopping". An experienced shopper takes people to the market and shows them how to shop for the best food at great prices. Then, takes them home to prepare meals.

What a joke! | I actually shop at more than one grocery store, the difference is I drive by just about every different store in my 7 mile commute (5 different brands). I look through the flyers and if one store has a great deal on something I regularly use I stop and stock up. I do my base shopping in the store that I work in though.
Do I need to be this frugal, no, but I did this before the economy went screwy so the gas prices and food increases hasn't really had an effect on me, I eat well and I didn't pay full price for any of the meat in my freezer.

I couldn't agree more, taking the time to actually cook as opposed to heating up prepared foods, can save a fortune.
Smart shopping is key, I don't remember the last time I paid over $1.99 a pound for name brand boneless skinless chicken breast, when my stock runs low I start looking for sales to stock up again so that I don't have to pay full price. I buy 1/2 pork loin(boneless) when it is on sale for less than $2 a pound and cut it down myself, about half the cost of buying it cut. Finding which store has the best store brands can also save money, and only buying name brands when they are on sale for a comparable price to store brands.
I also vacuum seal meats before freezing, I can't believe how much better meat freezes this way, I can't even tell that it's been frozen.
