I know what you mean! I've got a thick Southern accent and every time I've been in Maine I feel like I need a translator because the person I'm talking to has a hard time understanding me and me understanding them. We usually end up saying "uh?" a lot. One time I really had a poor waitress confused in a seafood restaurant because she couldn't figure out if I was saying "boiled" or "broiled."
I love to see the look on people's faces that are "from off" when they hear the Gullah here on the sea islands!
