That's How The Cookie Crumbles...

Mrs. Fields says to file for bankruptcy protection

United States - (Adds details from filing, byline)
By Emily Chasan

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Cookie retailer Mrs. Fields Famous Brands LLC said Friday it plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to help restructure its business, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

The company, which licenses and franchises about 1,200 Mrs. Fields Cookies and TCBY frozen yogurt locations worldwide, has begun soliciting votes from creditors for a "prepackaged" bankruptcy reorganization plan.

I think this might just be one that lived out it's trend. When I was a teen getting cookies at the mall was all the rage. Now they get those Pretzels. the little frozen dot ice cream and the scoopable bin candy. I have never had my kids ask for a cookie or even money to buy a cookie at the mall.

My daughter likes to get candy from other countries, usually Japan. That must be a big trend now because they even sell it in the FYE record and video stores at the mall. There was even a post about the fruit gum from Japan here that came from the Emeril cooking blog. They have managed to make some VERY realistic fruit flavorings.

Cookies may not be the "in thing" with kids right now, but it's sure hard to beat a good warm chocolate chip cookie with the chips still soft. Just makes your toes curl and gives you a good feeling all over.

Maybe it's just that they can get that at home now. Even if you didn't want to mix batter and all that there are tons of the frozen or refrigerated doughs out there now. The other things you couldn't make yourself. I have made the pretzels but it's quite a project.

We have never had Mrs. Fields here locally. There are only 2 indoor malls close enough for me to have visited very often. The first one built was closer to the Kentucky/Ohio side of the state and was a bit of a drive, then they built one in my town the year I started High School and there was a cookie place in both. One of the cookie places we had here tasted like they used bisquick in them. I liked them when I was younger, but as my pallet grew I preferred homemade.

I knew Mrs. Field's way before she was Mrs. Field's...back in the 70's. She made great cookies.
