That's a very good age to get into cooking, so that he can follow in his dad's footsteps!!

I started cooking at that age.

By the time he's an adult, he'll be quite the catch with his cooking skills.

No, he actually likes to do the fairly sophisticated stuff. Two weeks ago we did a fairly complex risotto. He's has pretty much got down when it's time to add more liquid. This past weekend, we did a variation of Pad Thai, substituting the usual Pad Thai sauce, with a curry that we ground from scratch. He actually likes to look in my CIA textbook for recipe ideas.

Try to get him into doing some baking as well. Then he'll love to use the K'Aid Stand Mixer if you have one!!

There is nothing quite like a dad showing his son the masterful art of cooking and baking!!

I do have a Kitchen Aid. I don't do a lot of baking. I'm mostly a right brain person, so cooking and writitng are the expression my left brain creative side. Baking is more right brain oriented due to the exact nature of the measurements that are required. But I do a pretty respectable pecan pie. ;-)

Yeah, your son can practically get away with eyballing it when it comes to just regular cooking, but yes, like you said, baking, like cakes, breads and pies strongly demamnd that you measure all your ingredients.

But I don't measure anything when it comes to making sweet potato pies! I can just eyball it and they come out PERFECT!! That's the one thing that I can bake and not mess up on anything.

Yes, cooking is an art, baking is a science.
