New Cereal Box Sizes Being Tested

I think I would like the new size for it would fit much better on my pantry shelf. Now, I have to lay the boxes down for they are too tall.

Kellogg Tests Shorter, Fatter Cereal Boxes

New Design Holds Same Amount of Food but Saves Space, Materials

CHICAGO (AdAge.com) -- Kellogg Co. is testing a "space-saving" cereal-box design that it predicts will redefine the cereal aisle. The new box, which is being tested in Detroit, represents the package-foods company's biggest box tweak since the 1950s. According to Kellogg, consumers and retailers want to save room in pantries and on store shelves.

Probably finding a way to put less in them is most important these days.

I'd rather have the taller thinner box. The other one will take up more width space in the pantry.
Wonder who thought this was a good idea?

I think for me it would depend on how fat they are. I can see that taking up a lot of space. But I have also had some that are too tall to sit upright on all but one shelf way in the back and everyone forgets about it. So I guess I need to see the box before I make a call on it.

That's the problem I have on every shelf in my pantry.

Yeah, I also don't think that's the right answer spacewise.

Some brainchild who is just running off at the mouth, no doubt, who sit at the desk and thinks that he or she knows what consumers have for food storage space in their homes.

Bentley... a lot of the new pantry systems being put in homes today don't have wide spacing between shelves, making a hard (to impossible) to fit a very tall box on the shelf. I don't think someone just sitting at a desk just decided on this without a reason. For all you know this "brainchild" could be a consumer who's fed up with trying to fit these tall boxes on his/her shelves. And, that's why they are just testing it... and in only one city... to see if it will work and to get feedback from consumers and retailers before making any changes. You know... you don't know if something is better without trying it.

Well, I for one, don't have the amount of food storage space that I'd like to have, since I'm in an apartment with limited storage space.

I'm fortunate to have some very high shelf space in our pantry. The current boxes work for me.
However, you are right, Pluff, some of the newer designs don't have this feature.

I, for one, could use either in our space, but would prefer the taller, skinnier, box.
