Martha Stewart sells bath linens and saucepans. Emeril has his pasta sauces. Almost any food celebrity worth their copper pans has tried to make a buck by introducing retail products or signing multiple endorsements.
Partnering with Ergo Chef, Food Network celeb Guy Fieri recently added to his budding culinary empire by selling fancy ergonomic knives. Whether these new knives are that great in the kitchen remains to be seen.
With such an over-saturation of celeb chef brands, does the average consumer really believe these stars actually use the products they sell or eat at the places they endorse?
Never in my entire life have I purchased something because a celebrity has endorsed or attatched their name to it. This is not to say that I have never purchased an item that a celebrity has endorsed, I just didn't purchase it because of the celebrity connection, but by my own choice. I think most of the celebrity chef endorsed products are probably OK in quality but I'm not going to pay one cent extra for the celebrity's royalties.
I have a lot of Emeril things, but with the exception of the dishes (which I bought online) all of his things have been excellent quality.
People buy me a lot of things as gifts because I do this site. So they are good gift items if someone knows a fan. I have a hard time picking gifts unless I know something a person really likes because everyone's taste is so different. But I have enjoyed everything Food Network related I have received from friends and family.
Cupcakes and smoothies at Taco Bell? Hmm, I never think of a cupcake after a taco. To me that is like the McD's hamburger and a latte. Just doesn't seem right.
It really depends on the product and the celebrity. Would I buy it just because they endorsed it, hmmmm only if I thought it might become a collectible. Sorta like Guy knifes, I might buy his chef knife, one, it is completely separated from regular chef knifes because of the flames on it, I really doubt any others will do that, and he stands a good chance of becoming really famous because he travels and does TV shows. Almost to the extent of a Elvis of food TV. It is stuff like that, how many ever thought Julia Child's cook books would be worth what they are today ?
