A Romantic Valentine Picnic

A Romantic Valentine Picnic

If you don't have a picnic basket, that's fine, you're only taking a few strides to the backyard so a large tray will do; think of Ina Garten, The Barefoot ...

Roses, chocolate-covered strawberries and cheesecake cut into little hearts...the writer of that article must be an Aunt Sandy fan! Actually even Aunt Sandy uses a bit more imagination than that.

"Only a few strides from the backyard..." I don't know about everyone else, but eating outside in the yard this time of year isn't very romantic. Here is it very rainy, wet, and a bit cool, although today is going to be 50 degrees. Still, not picnic weather.

Think we will eat inside for Valentine's Day.

I think all the cutsie stuff impresses children. Seems an adult woman would want a more elegant meal. And that men just want to eat it they don't care what it looks like.

If I ever made anything heartshaped my husband would look at it and say, "That's cute." And, that would be end of it. He's not into all that cutsie stuff. An elegant dinner with a bottle of wine is perfect.

Yeah being married to a military guy I can say with certainty that cutsie is not part of his persona.

Remember Valentine's Day in elementary school? We'd take lunch bags and decorate them hearts and doilies. Then we would hang them around the bottom of the chalkboard.

On Valentine's Day you would put a Valentine in each person's bag. What excitement that was seeing what Valentine's you would get. Everything was very cutsie and I so looked forward to it.

I particularly remember second grade. Maybe it was because of my teacher. She was always dressed beautifully and wore a lovely perfume. I always looked forward to going to school because of her. Teachers don't look like that anymore. And, they don't have parties for holidays either. What a shame...it was such an exciting time.
