At least on Iron Chef they have some inkling as to what the secret may be beforehand. The show isn't all a surprise like they make you think it is.

The parties sound like fun but I don't know anyone of my friends who would want to do this. Many of them don't even enjoy cooking that's why I usually host all the parties.

Wasn't there a cooking competition show on FN before the Iron Chef series? It had a game show format, sort of. The contestants had to answer questions and cook the food that was already in a fridge? This was on air long before I had much time to watch tv. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Your friends all know what a great time they have at your parties, Berry Baby. They just pretend they don't like to cook.

Yeah I would pretend I didn't know how if she was going to cook for me.

Thanks you two!! Well, they have all indicated that they look forward to what I'm going to make. It's ok as long as they enjoy themselves and the food!

In fact, the ladies from exercise want to know when my next party is going to be.
This time they all want to chip in $$'s because they want me to make an Italian feast
(and none of them know how to, or so they say). It will be fun.

In the very early days of the food network, they had a show that was called (I think?) Ready, Set, Cook!
The chefs approached a table and and got several (seemingly unrelated ingredients) and had to put a dish together.
The set looked like a game show - no sophistication.

FN was shown on the East Coast for a very long time before we ever got it. Never saw that show.

BB,

Actually this was when it was shown only in NYC.
Then they took it regional and ultimately nationally.
You're lucky you didn't see Ready, Set, Cook!
It had the look of something that you'd do in your basement with some of your pre-teen friends.
