Great minds think alike, hey? That's what I was thinking myself.

It's certainly no bargain with these piece-of-junk units if the batteries have to be replaced every blasted two weeks!!

Guess I'm "old-school"... Use the butcher freezer wraps (paper and poly) and zip-loc bags for things like shrimp. I just make sure I squeeze out all the air I can and haven't had a bit of trouble with freezer burn.

I guess it's time for my confessions of a food nerd. When I make hamburger patties, I lay them out on a cookie sheet and freeze them for about an hour till they are firm then wrap them in saran cling wrap individually and then freeze them completely in a freezer bag. I have been mocked for this.

We must have gone to the same school! I use the butcher freezer paper all the time and never have had a problem. This is a tried and true method from way back when and it still works today.:img52:

I saw that Reynolds unit in a commercial yesterday and I was making all kinds of nasty gestures at it!!

So sorry that I wasted my money and time on it.

Still using the Reynolds handivac and it is still going strong. I have only changed the batteries twice since I bought it in October, and I use dollar store batteries.

I still like how vacuum sealing keeps the meat tasting like it has never been frozen, even cooked meat, I wouldn't have believed it unless I hadn't tried it for myself.

Check the bags because about half of mine had worked themselves loose.

I have had a few bags go loose, but not too many. I have a few packs of cheese in the freezer that have been there since January and they are still sealed tight. Lately the bags seem better, not a bad one in quite a few months. One thing that you have to watch carefully is to make sure that nothing gets into the zipper track, this can mess up the seal.

Yes, I WAS careful with that, but at the time, I just got so fed up and frustrated with the thing because I had two that just woudn't work.

As it turned out, I just wasn't happy with it any more.
