Kitchen Gadgets: Holiday Gift Guide

Kitchen Gadgets: Holiday Gift Guide
Colorado Springs Gazette, CO - Nov 27, 2007
It’s that time of year when shoppers hit the road to find the “it” gift for all the culinary friends and family members on their holiday lists.

Not coincidentally, it’s also that time of year when lots of new cooking toys crop up. Some are practical must-haves, such as a rechargeable food thermometer. Others may make you scratch your head. (Crumb vacuum or poaching pod, anyone?) ...

Does anyone own The Bullet (As Seen on TV blender)? I was wondering if it is really good and worth the $$$'s.

I think isilzha has one and has told me she likes it. I will have to make sure she sees this thread to give her review.

We had a couple of these. One is still working (although we don't use it much) the other one had the motor burn out after we tried making dog food in it a couple of times. It was pretty good in terms of making drinks and smoothies. We made lots of smoothies, and my Mom was fond of using it to make an iced coffee (we used crushed ice from the freezer because we didn't want to put too much stress on the machine), but we didn't use it to make much food until the dog food. I guess the thing that was really nice about it was that it was small so it didn't take up much space. But I wouldn't use it for anything heavy-duty because like I said we burned the motor out on one.

Sounds as though I'm better off to just keep on using my blender and food processor.

It strikes me as something best for bachelor pad or a single person in an apartment. You can't get a whole lot in the thing, so if you were going to make something it would be best for one person or you'd have to do it a few times for multiple people. You guys are culinary queens so you probably couldn't use a thing like that unless it was just for individual drinks.

I used to go thru a hand mixer every year till I burnt their motor up. My husband finally decided the Kitchenaid was a good investment then.
