GE Announces Microwave Recall

GE Announces Microwave Recall
Updated: Dec 5, 2007 02:20 PM

A dangerous microwave recall was announced Wednesday morning. GE is recalling 92,000 built-in combination wall and microwave ovens. They're sold under the brand names GE, GE Profile and Kenmore.
It says the door switch can overheat and ignite.
GE says there have been 35 reports of minor property damage and one incident in which a fire spread to nearby kitchen cabinets. No injuries have been reported.

Whew! Ours is a GE built-in with microwave and oven however the house was built in 1994. They don't even make the ovens this small anymore.

It was a major adjustment to use such a small oven. We are talking about re-doing the island and putting in a full-size range to replace the cooktop. This way I would have a full-sized oven. What a treat that would be!

I have a GE convection Microwave but it isn't built in. We have a cabinet made for it but I was afraid if I got one built in they would change the design and I would be stuck getting only what would fit in the built in space.

Smile GE Microwave Recall

I have a built in Microwave / Convection oven from GE Profile in my kitchen.
They (GE) has had to replace it 3 times in the 4 years I've owned it.
Once for the door latch, which they couldn't fix.
Once for convection fan, which stopped working and there was no replacement available.
Once because the magnetron burnt out.
I sure hope they don't recall mine, now that it is working fine.

There isn't a lot of consistency in any product line anymore. We have a GE refrigerator We have had ever since we first got married. When we remodeled the kitchen I moved it to what will be the garage and it works great even after being moved to other houses and here other rooms. It gets hot in there in the summer so I thought that it wouldn't last because it would have to work harder to stay cool, but it's still going strong. So that made me buy all GE this time because when everything else had troubles the fridge stood up.

My parents have a GE fridge they bought when I was 3 years old. It's in their laundry room now but still works. It's one of those kinds you have to defrost and every so often. They do that and it just keeps going.

I guess any company can have something go wrong once in a while though.
