Rep Power: 10 | Kitchen Essentials: Measuring Cups & Spoons Kitchen Essentials: Measuring Cups & Spoons It's a no-brainer: Most recipes need exact measurements. But do you have what it takes to tackle that cookie recipe? Maybe, maybe not.
With NYC apartments being so tiny and kitchen cupboard space being non-existent, some of you might be relying on your liquid measuring cup to appraise how much sugar or flour you need, which would make Alton Brown cringe! The difference isn't so much about the volume - pour flour into a liquid cup measure, you'll still end up with a cup of flour - but the measuring accuracy, which is essential for baked goods. Rep Power: 10 | I would like to have some of the pretty measuring cups and spoons Paula Deen has, but they are expensive.

Rep Power: 1 | I have a set of those white measuring cups! My favorite and most used ones are my stainless ones with a nice rim for even leveling, I actually have them hanging on the wall so they can be grabbed quickly, I also have what I think are the perfect stainless measuring spoons, nice flat tops again for easy leveling.

Rep Power: 10 | I still use my olive green Tupperware measuring cups that I got as a wedding shower gift 34 years ago!
I recently gave up my old glass Pyrex measuring cup because all the measurements had worn off. Did purchase another Pyrex but the design is wider than the old originals.
Measuring spoons are yellow plastic and don't even know where I got those.
Nothing fancy, but they all serve the purpose.

Rep Power: 1 | I have Tupperware measuring cups and spoons too. I think I swiped them from my mother's house. I just bought a new liquid measuring cup with the increments on the inside so you don't have to hold it at eye level to read it. I use my scale a lot; it weighs in both grams and ounces. I've forgotten how to switch it though so I only have grams. |

Rep Power: 10 | My scale measures both ways as well. Just have to push the oz. button until you see it on the screen.

Rep Power: 10 | I like my scale too. Alton's books already give you the weights for his recipes.

Rep Power: 1 | I found awesome steel measuring cups at WalMart for less than $10 and I love them. I've seen the same elsewhere for $20. Then there are the measuring spoons that I've had forever that look just like my mothers. I also have three pyrex measuring cups in 1 cup, 2 cups, and 4 cups and a shot glass looking thing for liquid teaspoons. |

Rep Power: 1 | I got rid of all my other measuring cups when I found a plastic set I liked at Walmart for a buck ninety-eight and bought 5 sets, one in each color. I ha really old set of gold plastic Tupperware ones that had the 2/3 and 3/4 cups. I saved those two and gave the rest away. I've got as many sets of measuring spoons as I have fingers and toes, LOL. There are times when you need one particular size for wet and dry ingredients and I don't like to have to worry about that. I'm 'all covered' for liquid measuring cups, too. I have several in plastic and glass as well as assorted sizes. Plus I have 3 of those huge Pyrex 3-quart measuring bowls that I like to use when I make peanut brittle in the microwave. I've seen the measuring cups that Paula uses, if you're talking about the metal ones with the raised pattern on them. They're really nice. I know she always says she likes to shop the flea markets and finds a lot of cast iron items there.
