Rep Power: 10 | We had that problem years ago and the people who installed the new disposal fixed it. That has been a real blessing!

Rep Power: 10 | All of our stuff is new, we were told it's good to make sure all the gunk doesn't make it into the plumbing because you can process it again in the disposal. I don't really like it that way though. |

Rep Power: 10 | Going to the plumbing store later and see what they suggest. They have all kinds of interesting stuff there. Maybe I'll get lucky and find the magic fix!

Rep Power: 2 | Did you try running some citrus (lemons, limes, oranges) through the disposal?
Cut them up first.
That always gives mine a fresh smell.

Rep Power: 10 | Our pipes used to 'burp' and make a terrible smell.

Rep Power: 10 | Somehow Dad fixed it and it doesn't do that anymore (thankfully).

Rep Power: 10 | Clove, thanks, but did the citrus thing in the beginning and it did nothing. Used Lysol tonight but all I get is the Lysol smell and the odor combined and it isn't pleasant. If it was just Lysol, I'd LOVE it! But, alas, it isn't. Oh well, I'm going to the plumbing store this weekend. Didn't have time today.

Rep Power: 1 | Berry, I remember having that problem years ago and found it was from some "gunk" that was stuck on the underneath side of the rubber gasket on the disposal. I removed it and cleaned it and that solved my problem. My daughter found a product called Disposer Care and told me about it and I've been using it ever since. It's made by Iron Out, Inc. A package of 4 packets is about $3. I use it once a month just for maintenance. How it works: You run hot water down your drain for a minute then slow it to a trickle. Insert the entire (unopened) packet into the disposer then turn it on. Blue cleaning foam will rise into the sink itself but will retreat back into the sink after a short time. If you have a double sink, make sure it's empty as the foam will rise in that drain as well. The cleaning cycle is complete when the foam disappears completely and you hear a swish of water. This takes about 3-4 minutes. Disposer CareĀ®
