Rep Power: 2 | Ice Cream Maker; Who Has One? Mine is one of the self-contained machines. has it's own built-in sealed refrigerating system, which eliminates the need for salt and ice.
I DID own an electric 4-qt churn model that needed salt and ice to freeze the mixture.
But over time, it began squeaking so badly that I needed a new machine, and since I was buying a new one, I thought I'd get one that doesn't need salt or ice to freeze the custard.
It works great!! No more buying expensive ice cream from the store!! |

Rep Power: 2 | Well since Blue Bell factory is right up the road, and they deliver to the stores almost daily, and always are running special sales, we do not make ice cream, theirs is just wonderful,, and flavor selection is almost unlimited.

Rep Power: 10 | I started to get the attachment for my kitchenaid, but I didn't think I would use it enough to make up the price. The private selection brand is as good as the expensive stuff you can only buy by the pint. Since that's so good, no more than we have it I can't justify the cost. |

Rep Power: 2 | Lucky you, ibcheft!
But I like & enjoy the fun of making my own. It's so rewarding!
Food network Fan, you wouldn't have wanted it anyway because that and the others that come with the double-walled pre-freeze bowls, they make you pre-freeze the bowl for up to 8 long hours. And you can only make ONE batch of ice cream at a time.
To make more, you must prefreeze the bowl again. That would just make my blood boil to have to wait that long! |

Rep Power: 10 | I had it in my hand in a store a while back but changed my mind. As many different flavors as we all like it would be hard to make everyone happy with out making a ton of it. |

Rep Power: 2 | Hence the self-contained unit.
You leave the main switch on after the 1st batch is done, to keep the compressor running so that you can make batch after batch after batch until you are done making it, which I've done.
Then when you're done, just flip the main switch off. |

Rep Power: 10 | We received one as a wedding gift (30+) years ago and never used it. Gave it away, still in the box. We aren't much on desserts.

Rep Power: 1 | I had the one where you have to freeze the bowl for 24 hours (and it usually needed that long) just to make a quart of ice cream, what a pain. Now I have an old fashioned one that takes salt and ice, with an electric motor, I like this one I use it every once in a while, ihave made sherbet and ice cream in it, there is just something different about the taste of homemade ice cream a taste that I haven't seen duplicated anywhere. I buy really good local heavy cream.

Rep Power: 3 | We've got the Cuisinart frozen yogurt/sorbet/ice cream maker. It makes 1.5 quarts in about 20 - 25 minutes. It suits our needs. |

Rep Power: 2 | In an episode of Unwrapped tonight, I saw a very unusual one that is shaped somewhat like a ball or a football.
The mixture was put in it in a small container opening at one end, ice and rock salt were put into the other end. The kids were playing with it, shaking it and sitting on the ground rollin it back and forth. Miraculously, it worked! The stuff inside got frozen, and the kids ate it all up!
Did anyone else see that episode as well? |
