Anyone remember Bradlees/ i LOVED TO shop there because they had EVERYTHING!! Woolworth's, Lechmere, Fretter, Kitchen Etc. and Filene's. All gone now!
Kitchen Etc. is where I got my George Jr. Rotisserie seven years ago - in the same week as the 09-11 terror attacks! | I'm still bitter about Macy's taking over Marshall Field's. All my childhood I imagined growing up and making enough money to shop at Marshall Field's. Now its Macy's, which I don't care any which way about. :img21:

Rep Power: 10 | Our mother use to take us to the Walnut Room every Christmas holiday. We'd take the bus to downtown Chicago. Those were special times.
I love Macy's! Think about the history of that store...especially the Macy's Day Parade, Miracle on 34th Street....it has quite the history as did Marshall Fields.
Enjoy what they have to offer. They are history in the making.
BTW, they took over our Meier and Frank stores out here. Honestly, M&F had some great memories for us, Breakfast with Santa, the Christmas Parade, Santaland and mono-rail around Santaland.
Times change, people change, but our memories will never change. Enjoy the new memories.

Rep Power: 10 | Macy's doesn't mean anything to me, I never dreamed of shopping at Macy's as a kid. I can buy everything I really want online (and probably for cheaper). Marshall Fields meant something to me, and had a lot of history in this town.

Rep Power: 10 | It is tough to see things that are special to you go away. We had a store here called the Diamond and they had more upscale things (for here anyway it's not like a big city I am sure). My mom worked there as an elevator operator back when there were such things. She would take me every year to breakfast with Santa in the store and they always had puppies and kittens in the window. It was on a street with JC Penney and Montgomery ward. When you went shopping at Christmas time the streets were decorated and they had people selling wreaths and things like that on the street corners and you would scurry around in the snow. The mall came and all of that went away and it isn't the same. The Diamond has been closed for years and the other stores moved to the mall, Montgomery Ward closed after the mall location had been open several years. |

Rep Power: 1 | BG we went to the Bradlees near Westminster Dodge in Boston when I was a kid. We got our first puppy from Boston Rescue League and took her to Bradlees parking lot to run around (on a leash of course) before making the trip back home.
There was a Bradlees on the Cape as well. I did like that store.
What about Jordan Marsh? Anyone remember them?

Rep Power: 1 | FNF, would you drive to Columbus just to go shopping? Or would you make a weekend out of it?
I hate driving to our local mall and it is only 30 minutes away. We have a local shopping place called Mashpee Commons, but it is mainly specialty stores. Mashpee Commons - Home Page

Yes, I remember them very well. They once were the dominating force in Boston, having had TWO massive blocks on Washington Street. They eventually became Macy's somewhere in the '90s.
Remember Raymond's? How about Kresge's? They've become what is known as Kmart today.
Mongomery Ward is another one.
They had bought out Lechmere, then Lechmere went under! |
