But I just don't trust these bankrupt stores now. Especially after what happened with TJX! And they're not even in Chapter 11.
The TJX debacle is a good example of why poor computer security is real danger. Sorry Suzie, I know it's bit off topic, but being a geek, I couldn"t resist.

I rarely use my debit card anymore with all of these security breaches. I use a credit card most of time because it is so much safer and if it gets compromised it isn't my money at stake. You just have to make sure that you pay off the balance in full every month to avoid interest and debt. Heck I even make a few hundred dollars a year in rewards this way.

One of the reasons why I won't buy ANYTHING at a TJX-owned store any more.

I was at a Walgreens parmacy during that time trying to buy life-saving medicine and couldn't get it because my debit card just wouldn't work!!

When I called the bank to find out why, it told me that my card was canceled because of the TJX scandel and that my card number came up amongst the other customers' card #'s who bought stuff at one of their stores!!

So I don't even go into any of their stores now.

I can see where that would be irritating.

I still can't believe that they were using WEP for their wireless security. It only takes a couple of minutes to hack a WEP key.

My Bank changed my card within days after this happened. Just because I had purchased something there before. They didn't even know if mine had been in the group. They took the precaution.

They told me that my card # had appeared on the list and had canceled it.

Boy, was that an embarrassing thing to try to buy some important medicine and couldn't!!

Not only that; The lousy supermarket wouldn't give me cash back after writing a check to buy groceries, saying that I had to shope there 10 times with a check to establish credit with them before I could get cash back from a check! What a crock!!

Then, if I needed any cash, I was forced to go all the way over to the bank which is on the other side of town!!! It was just an inconvenience all the way around without the card!!

You could write a personal check to buy food, but you were denied any cash! If a personal check is good enough to buy some food, them why isn't it good enough to get some cash back?!

I think they've changed their wireless security as a result of the hack. But, WEP has been known to be insecure for a long time. Back at Blackhat 2005, the FBI did a demonstration where they cracked a WEP key in three minutes. That was two whole years before the TJX hack.
