Rep Power: 2 | Yeah. I saw that thing that Ron was demonstrating.
Now what's wrong with using a whip or a fork, which my mom and grandmother used for years to beat up eggs? What was the point in that?
Honestly, I swear, some of these culinary crap gadgets are just a plain waste of time! |

I probably got more culinary crap gadgets than I know what to do with!
And I STILL haven't gotten the manual pasta maker yet! Haha!! That'll be the LAST thing. |

Rep Power: 2 | Now a pasta maker is ok if you make a lot of pasta and want it fresh. Even AB has given a pasta machine some time on Good Eats.
My problem is with these 'wonder gadgets' that make you life so much better. Like the aforementioned Popel egg scrambler. |

That one, I think, is DEFINITELY a waste of time, space and money!
At most, when I make scrambled eggs, I only make 2 or 3, unless I got company and I'm making more. And as always, the old-school fork or my little baby whip works wonders!
I remember getting this culinary crap gadget that was being made by Presto at the time - the electric potato peeler. Boy, was that a complete waste!! Since you still have to remove the "eyes", what was the point of me buying the thing?
But it was only $29.00 and on clearance at Macy's. No wonder no one wanted them!!
And besides, you have to gold the thing down to keep it from strutting its stuff across the table or counter. You can't leave it while it's on.
In other words, you have to babysit with it until you're done!! I've only used it once, and back in the box it went!!
The old-school hand peeler is STILL the best way to peel potatoes. Hands down!!:cryrub: |

Rep Power: 2 | I thought about that also, but I wondered if it would kill the mixer like the food grinder almost did.
Besides, that costs about $100.00 to $130.00, I think. The manual pasta maker only costs about $35.00. |

Rep Power: 2 | At first, I thought; "Boy!! This is great!! Now that I have TWO K'Aid Stand Mixers, I can get some attachments for them and maybe expand my culinary experience in the kitchen!"
Bought the grinder attachment, tried it once and that was it! The motor began to labor, the tranny had almost seized and liquild had backflowed into the unit's machinery!
I had to send the thing back to Cooking.com and I ordered a separate Waring Pro electric food grinder. I imagine that these mixers that I have are not able to accept those optional attachments. I wish they did though. I used to have the optional can opener, but I think it got stolen.
But the fact that the food grinder had failed and almost ruined the mixer, I think that put the breaks on me getting any other optional attachment for the mixers. I think that if thet made these from metal, I might not had had that problem.
Note that only THREE attachments are still made of metal; the grain milll, the pasta maker and the can opener. The rest are cheap and flimsy plastic. But my Waring Pro, I've used at least nine times now, and there hasn't been one problem with it at all!
The mixer works fine now. Had to let it dry out and test-ran it for a few weeks. It came back up to speed and is working beautifully! I was about to fork up $130.00 to have the machine fixed! Good thing I waited first. |
