A great new baking book!

I don't buy many cookbooks anymore because it seems like there will be just a few recipes that I will use and I won't be able to justify the cost. Well I took a shot at this new baking Book The America's Test Kitchen Family Baking Book.

Well this is a fantastic comprehensive baking book with tons of recipes in a nice binder. The recipes in this book are mostly the basics with lots of familiar items that have been tested and retested to make sure that they work. Individual ingredients are explained and brand names of test kitchen favorites are given to help guide you to buy the best for your money. There are step by step instructions and lots of illustrations to guide you.

I have already made the pecan pie recipe and it was pretty fantastic, I have never been happy with my pecan pies, but this one had a wonderful buttery caramel flavor.

I am bringing this up because the holiday season is almost upon us and this would make a great gift for an an aspiring baker, newlyweds, or anyone just wanting to improve their baking skills! I have enjoyed watching this show for the recipes even though I find the host a bit pretentious!

here is a link to order, mine took about 3 weeks to get.

NEW! The America's Test Kitchen Family Baking Book-Cook's Illustrated

The cover of that cookbook is quite similar to the one I have, except that it's red with a cast iron skillet on the front cover!

And yes, it DOES have a baking section in it. But I think I'll get this one for baking. It is published by the same co.

I just returned this one of theirs to the library today. I also have a copy of their "Kitchen Quick Tips" which is a handy little book to have. But, there is no way I'll order from them, because they automatically put you in their "book club" and send you a card for every book and video they publish, which you have to mark and return to them if you don't want it. I want to be able to buy just the one book and not have to keep fooling with the cards, so I purchase them from either Amazon or B&N.

Thanks for the heads up on the baking book! I'll have to check the next time I'm in B&N and see if they have it.

I absolutely HATE book clubs that do that!!

I normally select the ones in the enrollment package that I think I might like, buy one or more later after the enrollment package arrives and then close out the account.

Yeah, if you don't send the card back, you'll automatically get an unwanted book.

I mainly get my books from B&N as well. And if I really want to be stingy and cheap with my money, I sometimes go in town to browse at a used book store to see if there is something I might like to get from there. Sometimes it works out well that way!

I don't think that I'm part of a book club with this order, I looked all over for the fine print when I ordered it, but who knows I'll keep an eye out for a card in the mail and if I get one I will make sure to contact them to take me off their list.

I do love the book though
