San Francisco Chronicle - Jul 18 8:08 AMJust because it's summer doesn't mean you have to sweat over meals. After all, this is the time to put another shrimp on the barbie, make a cool fruit salad and stir up a fresh pitcher of icy drinks. Too much work, you might argue. Not if you can buy...

$95.00 for an ice cream scoop? Even if it is a heart shape, once the ice cream starts to melt, who is going to notice?

I found a great deal on a cherry pitter at Tuesday Mornings...only 25 cents!! I wasn't sure it would work, but for only a quarter, I thought I would try it. Guess what? It works incredibly well. You just get lucky sometimes.

My next stop was Restoration Hardware, where I found a nifty telescoping fork ($4.50).
Is that the thing I saw Alton use to point at his chalk board?

He has one. I have seen it too. I can't think of a reason to use it other than for that though. Unless you like to steal food from other tables in restaurants.

My next stop was Restoration Hardware, where I found a nifty telescoping fork ($4.50). You might ask, "What the hell would I do with that?" Why, roast marshmallows of course. Or weenies. Or eat with it. Or as Chronicle copy editor Jane Tunks suggests, "Use it as a back scratcher." Hey, that's a lot of bang for the buck.
I can't imagine paying 95 dollars for any kind of scoop. Mine always seem to get a rough spot in the scoop after I have used them a long time. I don't know if it's the dishwasher that does it or what.

This makes long strands but it might not be something as precise as what he had.
