Pepper mills...Whachooo got?
I'm discussing this topic elsewhere. I have a crappy little hand grinder that most people would be happy with.
I want to go electric. I want a choice of coarseness when I gring. I want long battery life. There's lots out there, but I can not find a comparison anywhere.
What do you have and like? Electric or manual.

Right now I've got a cheap one, but want to get the Peppermate mill. It's suppose to be easy to adjust the size of the grind from fine to super coarse on it. Most of the reviews I've read on mills ranks it fairly high, like Cook's Illustrated.

I have the manual version too. 2 acrylic with white and black pepper in them. One wooden that has a 5 peppercorn blend.

I got a wooden hand grind pepper mill that I like very much.
It was the McCormick Pepper Grinder that inspired me to get the wodden one because once the McCormick one is enpty, you are forced to buy another one because you can't refill it.
So I decided to get the wooden one. But I didn't know that there was an electric one.
I like the one Paula uses on her show! It has a little hand crank on the side. But I'm quite happy with the wooden one.

Ina uses a coffee grinder and grinds up big batches at a time. Is it Bobby or Michael that use a coffee grinder as well.
It's only used for grinding spices...they have a separate one for coffee beans.BerryBaby

I have an Acrylic Set, my wife got me for Christmas, but I had seen a set I wanted on one of the shopping networks, but never got it. The set has ceramic gears, and grinds out the top instead of the bottom. That way you do not always have that pile of either pepper or salt on your counters. If you order these you can also use them for spices, thats why the ceramic gears. I finally found them today on Amazon they are called Kuhn Rikon Vase Seasoning Grinder, they are pricey but the reviews some are good and some not so good, but out of what I read the seasoned cooks used and liked them, and some of the people used them for making compounds, that should of been done with a coffee grinder IMHO. But take a look I am going to order a set.

I like my acrylic one, I like being able to see how much is left so I can know to buy more. I may upgrade some day but this one fits the bill for now.

The Peppermate has ceramic gears too, but it grinds out of the bottom. But, it does have a base that it sets in to keep your counters clean. Both the Kuhn and the Peppermate run about the same price. The Kuhn is cool looking and I do like that it's clear so you can easily see how much spice you have left.
