So-So Celebrity Knives

So-So Celebrity Knives

By Heather Reese

Video
Consumer Reports' testers tried out 49 knife sets, which included anywhere from 3 to 20 pieces. The sets ranged from $50 to almost $600. Included in the tests some from TV celebrities such as Paula Deen, Martha Stewart, Emeril Lagasse, and Rachael Ray.

To check for cutting performance of chef's knives, testers chopped carrots, onions, and celery. Testers cut potatoes with the smaller paring knives. And they sliced salami with slicers, which have long narrow blades that are great for cutting meats.

I looked up the Ginsu set, it looks fairly nice, looks like fine edge. It looks like an upgrade from their original offering.

Did they test Alton's from Shun? I mine. The best knives I've owned.

Seems like the article should have given much more detail. It told you about Paula Deen and Martha's knives, but didn't say anything about the other celebrity knives, now they all have a taint on them.

There is a video you can watch. Click the link under the picture. It doesn't give a whole lot more info. But they are probably trying to get you to subscribe to consumer reports.

I went to the web site and tried to get to the report but they wanted a automatically renewing subscription to it. I do not sign up for anything that automatically renews without asking me first. The article led you to believe that most of the knives were not worth the money. Never did see anything on Wusthof. But I did catch something else about two months ago I had a questionnaire come up on Bravo site, about what products we would like to see from the Top Chef, I wrote back told them how about a set of knives with the top chef logo, thinking ya right like that will ever happen, but thought well maybe just a chef's knife. well today I was reading about the marketing and guess what came up

Super Chef: Top Chef Marketing Blitz

"But that is not all to come out of the Top Chef franchise. Bravo has signed a deal with Master Cutlery, the "largest importer of knives in the U.S. for the "Top Chef" Master Cutlery Knives" for release this summer on Bravo's website. "

Bet you I never see a dime of it, not that I really care, but sure would not turn down anything.

Ditto! So very glad that I made the purchase. My old knives went to the Habit for Humanity re-sale store.
