I heard on Rachael Ray's talk show this week she was having footage from the dinner from her "Yum-O" organization. They were having several young cooks on who were going to make the dinner for the guests under the tutelage of Michael Symon. President Clinton was one of the guests as well as speaker.
Anyway, Bobby Flay (dressed to the 9's) was there with his wife and Mario and his wife was at the next table. And there he was in his 'standard uniform'; white shirt, old vest and, I'm sure', his shorts and orange clogs. FCOL, can't the guy dress up for such an occasion? He didn't seem to be having a very good time either, from the look on his face. My thoughts were that he was probably peeved that he wasn't asked to participate rather than Symon but, somehow, I just can't see him interacting with teenage cooks.
My brother won't watch Mario because he thinks he's a slob. He doesn't like his perspiration, pony tail or manner of dress. He doesn't bother me that much just watching his show, but I agree that if an event is more formal it's disrespectful to those who invite you if you don't dress appropriate for the occasion.
Well, here he broke the mold.
It was 2005 and he was at the James Bread Awards when he was named "All-Clad's Outstanding Chef."
No word as to what was on his feet (or from his waist down).
Yea, he is actually really nice, we went to his book signing yesterday... we gave him the book to sign and he saw our camera and asked us if we wanted a picture with him, to which, one of the assistants took the camera and he told me "Come on over, I won't bite" with a big smile and we proceeded to have our pic taken with him... it was AWESOME! He was also my very first seen-in-real-life celebrity chef... so that may have added (just a little) to the whole experience... I wrote about it in my blog...
Sure enough he WAS wearing his vest, shorts, and clogs.
EDIT: and yunno, he is buddys with Rachael Ray... he's doing a contest/promo with her right now for NASCAR, and he's cooked with her a few times... Flay/Delaurentis and Batali/Ray Iron Chef being at least one that I know of. Perhaps he didn't feel obligated to dress up somehow. I agree with Berry
I think Mario is a snob as well...I never liked him and prolly never will
Yunno, you just said (on May 5th) over on the "Strange News about Mario" thread that you liked him and used his recipes and hope the rumors weren't true. LOL
Okay, I'll be the one to bring it up......I'm not being mean but either that's an extremely bad photo of the woman on the right or it's a man in drag.It actually looks a little like Tiny Tim but in his early years.
I'm sure he wants to be known for his 'signature' look but there are just times when propriety and common sense should be used. I'm just glad Richard Simmons wasn't invited to this bash.
