Rep Power: 2 | Mario is spending October in Spain filming his new PBS series October 2007: Filming - PBS Series Mario is spending October in Spain filming his new PBS series highlighting the country's culture and sights. He will be joined by Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, New York Times food columnist Mark Bittman and Spanish TV actress Claudia Bassols. The show, which will be shot over a span of 10 weeks in English and Spanish, will be "a showcase of Spain as it has never been seen before". "Spain ... on the road Again" will run on US public television PBS as 13 one-hour episodes during late next year and is expected to be broadcast in other nations as well. http://www.mariobatali.com/wheresMario.cfm I sent him an email after reading the Zagat comments on his 2 flagship restaurants (Babbo & Del Posto - below). I asked him why he was leaving the country when the ship was sinking. 10/8/07 - "Dreadful. I had a inedible meal here" 10/1/07 - "I have not been able to taste the food. Simply, having reserved a month in advance, I had to leave after forty minutes of waiting without being seated (amounting to a thirty-minute delay on my reservation time)." 9/22/07 - "The menu promises astonishing taste sensations from every Italian provine, but the actual food on the plate was unexciting" 9/19/07 - "You almost have to beg to get served... Sommelier disappeared and came back at the end of the night, "I'm sorry, we got very busy" http://www.zagat.com Not a good review since August 2007 8/28/07 - "...the food was a disappointment."

Do you know how he hooked up with Gwyneth Paltrow? Mario is pretty close with Michael Stipe of REM and Paltrow is married to Cold Play's Chris Martin. Martin and Stipe are friends since they worked together in the Hurricane Katrina benefits 2005 -2006. Small world.

Rep Power: 10 | Yes Mario is a big part of the hip Hollywood scene. I would think that might make an interesting show for the Food Network. Have him prepare favorite dishes for celebs in their home or something. You would get to see the nice kitchens the big Hollywood homes have and learn to make lots move star meals ... or lots of lettuce dishes when he visits supermodels. |

Rep Power: 10 | Didn't they have a show like that? Showing celeb homes? Can't remember who it was with though (unless I made it up in my head ).

Any chef could cook there and be inspired to create great food.

Rep Power: 10 | I think Rachael Ray did a show something like that but surely she couldn't get us the kind of Stars Mario could. She had people like Cheech from Cheech and Chong, Mario could get Gwyneth . She didn't cook for them she just had them tell what they liked to cook and sometimes helped or riffled thru their fridge.
Sting would be good too! |

Remember the meal that Danny Devito ordered (and never ate) in Get Shorty? Egg-white omelet!
I don't want to see a ton of that on cooking shows.
How much tofu can we stomach?
Anyway, that's just me.

Rep Power: 10 | Well he is doing a show now with Gwyneth and someone decided it was worth airing. I haven't and wont ever see it though if it's on PBS. She doesn't look like a gal that wolfs down a whole pan of Lasagna either. |

She will eat eel and other thing during the shooting of this show.
If that's true, she must have a high metabolism to stay so thin.
