Why I Hate Food Bloggers By Mario Batali

Why I Hate Food Bloggers By Mario Batali #01
Wednesday, June 13, 2007

Restaurateurs are slowly starting to go on the record with hatred for the food blogs (example), citing a slew of sneaky and unscrupulous, often self-serving, tendencies that make dealing with bloggers impossible. While we've never considered Eater a food blog per se -- we're a restaurant blog -- Mario Batali certainly has. And he's not happy with us or food blogs in general. Because Mario will always be a hero of ours, like us or not, we've asked Molto Mario to do his venting here. Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the very latest in food blogger hating technology, Why I Hate Food Bloggers, By Mr. Mario Batali.

*We aren't a bunch of negative foodies hiding behind our words.

I would think we add more to the success of Food Network with all our enthusiasm.

*Ok, we do have a few negative things to say about a few of them, but even Anthony Bourdain agrees with us.

If no one cared about these guys enough to follow what they do, they wouldn't earn what they earn. He has to admit he is way beyond the earning potential of a chef that just has a top quality restaurant. And it doesn't seem to bother him that people are so fascinated by him they are willing to buy all the kitchen gadgets and cookware he is peddling.

Braden Keil: Mario Batali "Should Get Back In The Kitchen"

Yesterday Eater published a column by notorious blog-hating chef Mario Batali, appropriately called Why I hate Food Bloggers. Strangely the only boldfaced name Batali singles out in his philippic isn't a blogger at all but a real "journalist," the Post's Mr. Braden Keil. Apropos coverage of Batali's latest victory over his landlord at Del Posto, Batali writes
If you follow the blue bold link, it takes you to the original piece driven by a factoid written by the hapless NY Post real estate/food hack Braden Keil who has hated me for as long as I can remember, not that he has any value to journalism anyway. That's who.
