That poor major looked genuinely worried about the dinner. I am curious who asked Robert to handle this event and why. Not that it didn't make for a good show, that's not what I mean. But what was the air force's motive for allowing him to do it? Didn't they say that they feed 10,000 people a day so wouldn't their kitchen staff be quite adept at handling this and why was there almost nothing in that food locker he checked for cake mix? Lots of the equipment didn't work in the second half hour show. He must have been in the main kitchen though because the guy in charge told him that the crew for the next shift would be coming in right behind him. I'm a terrible cynic, I know, I know, but some of this didn't make a lot of sense to me.

Maybe they had him in a kitchen they use for things like this and not the daily meal. They probably had to keep the regular kitchen going for the people who don't attend the event. Enlisted soldiers (and I would assume airmen) do not usually go to black tie events. It's mostly officers and sometimes higher ranking enlisted. All the regulars on the base would still need to eat wherever they normally eat.

Don't you think some of these things are 'staged' to make for better TV? If things always went right, and they always had all the ingredients, the show wouldn't be as exciting.

Just like Iron Chef. They edit the voiceovers to make it seem like the two chefs are running out of time. When, I bet, they were done with their dishes in plenty of time.

Oh, the drama of it all!

Yeah I think they exaggerate things sometimes to add to the suspense. But I do enjoy it.

Being a retired Chief, I particularly enjoyed the Marine episode. Gunny was knee deep in his nickers the whole time.

I keep reminding myself that this is TV, and everything is edited. I've never believed that he does all the grocery shopping, etc, and gets the food ready in the allotted time. It is "real" in as much as everyone gets a good meal and he really supervises the preparation. Is it all done in real time?? Who knows? But it is still highly entertaining, and I don't want to see Robert fired. By the way, I love the camp show with Guy heading up the other team that also aired last night.
