Latest Newsletter From Robert Irvine... Lets move on!

April, 2008 Newsletter

The Battle is Not the War

While the past few weeks have been filled with a lot of ups and downs, I have always felt that life is a series of challenges that breed new and exciting opportunities. Even though a lot of what happened was mischaracterized I know one thing: I can cook.

Whether it was serving food to the Royal Family during my tenure on the Royal Yacht, Britannia, training many of the cooks and staff who work in the White House Mess or devising menus and presenting dishes to my adopted country's Chief Executives, I am proud of my culinary accomplishments and of the work I've done on Dinner: Impossible, where I have faced some of the toughest cooking situations a chef could ever imagine.

I am proudest of the friends I've made along the way, the lives I've been allowed to touch and most of all, of the love and support of my family. I am ready and eager to move forward to the next chapter, the next challenge and the next opportunity. I thank you for the support I have received from so many of you and the heartfelt good wishes and prayers you have sent to me and to my family.

Let's move on together!

Bon Appetit!

Military Awards in Denver: I appeared as the guest speaker at the IFSEA Military Awards dinner at the Adams Mark Hotel in Denver on April 5th. This conference was sponsored by the International Food Service Executives Association and was attended by high-ranking officers and representative service people from the Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Military Sealift Command. I always feel like I'm coming home when I'm able to appear in front of members of the armed forces, who give so much, sometimes for little reward. Thanks to Ed Manley and my good friend Mike Carter at the White House, for making it happen.

"A Taste of Talent" at Perona Farms: One of my very best friends in the culinary world, Chef Kirk Avondoglio, is holding a benefit for Project Self-Sufficiency at his home base at Perona Farms in New Jersey. When Kirk calls, I come running. I'll be cooking for guests and sponsors during the cocktail hour and will be signing copies of Mission: Cook! for anyone who would like to stop by and contribute.

"Share Our Strength" at Harry's Savoy Grill- Chef David Leo Banks has invited me to participate in his "Taste of the Nation" dinner on Thursday, April 10th. It's their 20th Anniversary as host of this spectacular event. Cookbook author Susan Spicer will be there as well as the brilliant Aimee Olexy and Brian Sikora. We'll be pulling out all of the stops to create the most amazing food and a most memorable time for all those who participate. It's a great cause and all donations benefit the Food Bank of Delaware and the Ministry of Caring.

"Chefs for Humanity"- I'm also pleased to announce my continuing participation as part of the Chef's Council of Cat Cora's charity, Chefs for Humanity. The next event on their roster at which I will be making an appearance is at US Job Corp Culinary Expo in Philadelphia, June 17th to 20th. It's all part of an effort to raise awareness of the dangers of type 2 diabetes and to fight the rise of childhood obesity, so if you're in that neighborhood, please try to make plans to check it out.

I still like him, too. I hope the powers that be will give him another chance, but I guess I'll understand if they don't. Lies or not, the man can COOK. I don't think I'd go into any business ventures with him anytime soon, but I'd love to cook with him.

Gourmet Magazine probably has already spoke to him...isn't Sara Moulton the Food Editor? Whatever he does, it's going to be great!
