My wife goes to the front door, last night opens it brings in a box, looks at it and goes another cook book ? I go well could be, but did not remember ordering one. Then I opened it, It was Gordon Ramsay Cooking for Friends. Looks like it will be interesting. I know a lot of you dislike him for Hells Kitchen and his language but you really ought to check out some of his cook books, and his cooking videos on the web, he is nothing at all like what you see on Hells Kitchen, and the dishes well are phenomenal. Just thought I give you a heads up on a new cook book, reminds me of John Besh's new one My New Orleans another phenomenal book worth the money.

The UPS truck brought another cookbook to my door yesterday. It's Thomas Keller's newest one - "ad hoc at home." It's more family-style recipes and not as up-scale as his other cookbooks. This one has recipes that you actual would cook in your home kitchen. It's another one of the "heavy weight" books that have come out lately. I'm going to have to reinforce my bookshelves if this keeps up!
Now only does the book has great recipes, but mouth-watering full-color photos... a lot of them full page. He also has in the "side bar" on a lot of pages these tid-bits and tips that he likes to call "lightbulb moments." I've already learned somethings just by reading thru some of these. There are also great step-by-step instructions for techniques with full-color photos.
I had this book on my "wish list" at Jessica's Biscuit for a while, but the other week in their e-newsletter, it showed that they were offering it for 40% off... and autographed to boot. The little devil on my left shoulder chimed in and said "Buy it." So, I didn't argue.
ibcheft... I think this is a book you would really enjoy.

I have quite a collection as well. Many of them are cooboks of different cuisines from around the world. One of my favorites is Regional Italian Cuisine, with ofcourse, it's companion, The Regional Wines of Italy.

Having traveled the world fairly extensively, I love trying my hand at foreign cuisines.
We went to Ireland in March '08 & stumbled upon Garlic Cheese Fries after touring the Jameson Distillery. We were waiting for the bus & needed to eat & umm, get a pint or two as well. We went into this little take out place & Erik ordered the Fried Chicken & I order the Garlic Cheese Fries cuz they sounded soooo good. We went back to the bus stop & waited while we ate. They were the best things I had ever eaten. Erik asked me how they were & I said "Uhh, they suck, you wouldn't like them". Unfortunately, he knows what that means so he quickly became an addict too. I tried to duplicate them when we got home & only within the last 3 months have a I perfected it!!
