Chestnuts

Hi, everyone!

Well, I received the chestnuts I ordered online and they are HUGE, delicious and remind me of San Franscisco days.

During the holiday they would have hot chestnut vendor carts on the street corners. What a special holiday treat that was!

I was really pleased with the quality and size. Roasted up a half dozen and the memories came back in an instant.

Ah, I love this time of year!

We used to be able to find them in the woods around here. But some were usually wormy.

The ones that I bought in the store last year were so hard and moldy. I probably couldn't have cracked them if I rolled over them with my car! I'm not kidding they were like rocks and very expensive. Took them back to the store and they refunded my money.

I know the online producers sell a good product and missed out ordering last year. Like I mentioned, I wasn't disappointed and will do it again next year.

Sounds good. I love the internet, so many things I could never find around here all at the click of a mouse. I order spices alot online. So much of the stuff the store sells doesn't sell quick enough. I saw a vanilla bean at the store once and crumbled to pieces when I tried to bend it.

I know. Yesterday they had a 'buy one, get one free'. Thought it was a deal until I looked at the price....$7.99 for a small jar of Chili Powder! That was not a deal. You have to really pay attention to the comeons.

Thanks, I'll have to remember that. I get a number of spices at Cost Plus and refill my bottles. They don't fill them all the way, but I think that is better. They stay fresher longer and I buy them only when needed.

You can get several different sizes from Penzeys for things you use more or less of. It's nice.

I have no idea what a chestnut is other than you are supposed to roast them on an open fire.

I think it is an acquired taste. My daughter and husband do not care for them at all.

My dad use to roast them in the oven and I got hooked. Very much a holiday tradition with me.
