Springtime foods.

I was thinking about seasonal foods, Summer says fresh veggies and ice cream to me, Winter is soup and comfort dishes, Fall would be apples and Thanksgiving dishes, but I can't really think of anything that is specifically spring to me. Do any of you have a Spring favorite?

Asparagus! I like it just slightly steamed and plain.

For fruit, it has to be strawberries. They are delicious right now and HUGE!

Those are my two spring favorites from the produce department.

We have ham for Easter usually. But I think about that for most holiday meals. Strawberries are a good one, but I think about them for Summer too. It's funny that their aren't specific prepared dishes that come to mind like in other seasons. Maybe it just depends on where you live. Winter carries into spring for many people. Summer is the big grilling time, and fall starts the root veggie dishes.

Spring, got to be crawfish boils, green tomatos, peas, and ham for Easter dinner. Wild leaks, wild mushrooms, hard boiled eggs, and fresh wild flowers. Summer everything grilled, smoked, boiled in the backyard by the pool. Fall, turkey, squash, pumpkin, cranberries, things with Thanksgiving. Winter, ham, soups, mac & chesse, stew, comfort food.

Well it's been so wet I can't even get my peas in the ground! Hopefully Saturday! Strawberries the first of June, here. Artichokes rule in all seasons, love them.

Chefnot, don't they ship in strawberries to you from California? We've had them out here for months. First, from Mexico, then California. They sure have been tasty!

Oregon strawberry season starts the end of June as well. Someone once told me there are over 100 different varieties of strawberries. The Hood River variety is very popular out here...small, sweet and great for making freezer jam.

I think strawberries are one of my favorite berries, with Marionberries topping the list!

Oh we get strawberries about year round, but nothing close in taste to the locally grown ones, not even close. Course I love them all.

Spring makes me think of lighter meals. More salads, fresh fish, and the odd BBQ item. Mostly because winter foods are usually heavier, like stew's and all that turkey.

No problems here. I can get Kraft Macaroni & Cheese 12 months out of the year.

LOL, just kidding! I couldn't pass that one up.
