I thought maybe we would start off this forum by sharing some of our favorite items to keep on hand. Are there some things you purchace nearly every visit to the store? The staples we use often says a lot about the kind of cook we are and what we enjoy preparing.

Lots of things come to mind...fresh mozzarella, Panko (Japanese rice bread crumbs), tomato paste in the tube for when you need just a tablespoon, Vermouth for sauces, marinated artichoke hearts, hummus, olives, garlic, fresh herbs...those are probably my basics.

We buy so much in bulk it's hard to say. Like...we get 20 pounds of basmati rice. That's lasts 6 months or more. Panko flakes last 4 months. Garlic (a long braided strand) lasts 6 months. Sheesh, what are we buying every month?????

Cheese....yeah that's it...........mozzarella, asiago, provolone. We buy salad fixins every week or so.

Tomato gravy we make in bulk.

Spices we grow....oregano, basil (several kinds) parsley.....that stuff lasts all year.

Sheesh.....I'm gettin a headache.............

I get rice, beans, and pasta in bulk at Sams. I get tomato sauce also, but I like to get the Italian specialty tomatoes in the international food isle at Kroger too. I like the little boxes of chicken stock and beef stock too. I order some spices online. Soup crackers, and pop tarts for the kids are always on hand here. And my husband likes cheese a lot so we have that in the fridge too. I get the frozen chicken tenders at sams too. Chicken is the one meat I do not think changes texture after freezing.
