Rep Power: 3 | I love slaw and slaws of ALL types I first tried Aunt Millie’s Country Coleslaw during a visit to Birmingham, Ala., way back when I was still in high school. It impressed me so much I actually wrote her a thank-you note and asked for the recipe! Sweet, tangy coleslaw is a nice surprise : Dining : Naples Daily News
Sweet? Do you shred your own cabbage or buy? Make your own dressing or buy? And your recipe?
We buy the shredded cabbage anymore (we like it) and I must say we have tried several dressings and liked them. Not to say we don't make our own.
I love some of the slaw's I have had in the south, a mix of many veggies.

Rep Power: 10 | I buy the shredded as it is such a deal...Dole Shredded Cabbage in a bag and only 88 cents a bag!!
I use the Lighthouse slaw dressing and add celery seed and black pepper. A great, inexpensive side dish.
Really enjoy it!

Rep Power: 2 | About the only time we eat cold slaw is at, barbecues, weddings, and events with a lot of people. Then I make my own, green cabbage, red cabbage, carrots, and onions. I make the dressing mayo, vinegar, salt pepper and celery seed. I need to start writing all this stuff out, recipes that is so many I just fix without following a recipe, just because I know what it is suppose to taste like. I can see a cook book in the future, now.

Rep Power: 10 | Me too...have a lot of recipes in my head. It's just easier. I cook like my grandmother use to by seeing and tasting.

Rep Power: 10 | There are places around here that make a mustard slaw for hot dogs and BBQ sandwiches. |

Rep Power: 10 | I saw that on one of those shows all about hot dogs. They sure do make them differently in all parts of the country.

Rep Power: 10 | They sell a broccoli slaw mix in the bags at my grocery store. I haven't tried it as slaw though. I don't buy the bags too often but I have used that one in stir fry before. I feel better using them if I cook what comes in bags. |

Rep Power: 1 | I buy the Dole bagged cole slaw, too. Much too convenient and inexpensive to do otherwise. I love slaw no matter what type of dressing is on it, whether it be sweet, mayo-ey or oil and vinegar. One of the best slaws I ever had was at my sister's. Hers was made with shredded red and green cabbage, thinly sliced red onion, chopped walnuts, Craisins and a sweet-and-sour dressing with cider vinegar, vegetable oil, sugar and celery seed. I remember making a Broccoli Cole Slaw that I saw on Paula's show and it was similar to the Chinese Chicken Salad recipe where you'd saute dry Ramen noodles in butter and add almonds, etc. It was very good but it's a recipe you only make what you'll eat at one sitting because even a half day in the fridge renders it soggy and inedible.
