Time to gear up for fall vegetables

Time to gear up for fall vegetables

The Bryan-College Station Eagle - Aug 03 5:17 AM Nowadays, gardeners plant vegetables as a hobby or because they prefer the flavor, freshness and nutrition of crops from their own gardens

My daughter wanted to plant a pumpkin. I picked a bad place for it. It's taking over the yard.

I did Cinderella pumpkins one year and they were beautiful, but they were all over growing up the fence!
They need lots of space.

Now I just do pots of tomatoes, lemon cucumbers, herbs and flowers on the patio. My tomatoes are loaded with the most delicious little cherry-type fruit. I pick them off and eat them while I water everything else.

We are also blessed with many, many farms within minutes of our home. Just stopped by today and picked up larger tomatoes, eggplant, Romaine lettuce and peaches. Had just been to the farm this weekend, but I can't go by one without stopping. The produce is out of this world delicious!!!

I had a tomato plant in a pot. Before the deer got to it. He didn't bother the jalepenos though.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to pick my pepper yet or not (only 1 grew on that plant, but it was one of the leftovers from CVS that I bought for $.25 after work one day so it was worth it). It supposed to turn red, but I'm not sure how red it should be when I pick it. It is a lot closer to red than I thought it was. Its sort of an orangey red.

I have a teeny tiny green pepper, mine hasn't made it to red yet. But you can eat them when they are green so I guess it would just be preference.

I've never grown peppers before, so I don't have a preference to base it off of. Maybe I'll just pick it when I come home from work tomorrow.
