Plastic, not axes, threatens cork forests Reuters - Mon Aug 6, 5:37 AM ET Sent 520 times TEMPIO PAUSANIA, Sardinia (Reuters) - If you buy a bottle of wine with a metal screw-top or a plastic cork, you won't just be thumbing your nose at tradition. You may also be dooming the world's cork forests.

We only use cork when we bottle, but I'll drink anything.

The new corks do prevent the wine from becoming tainted. I like the screw top for the convenience. After you open the bottle, and if there is some left, it is much easier to just screw it shut. I use the rubber stoppers after opening the corked bottles.

Did you know that each cork is cut by hand?

No I didn't know that.

To be honest, If it's just for drinking at home for no special occasion, most of the time I get one of those boxes. It stays fresh if you just have one glass at a time because all the air is out and it collapses as you go so none can get in.

There is a black box brand here that I like. Reasonable price and a very good casual wine.

There's never any left once a bottle is opened here. Didn't know that about the corks either.
