    Swanson Stock

I went to the grocery store today and they had a new product from the Swanson Broth people. Now they have beef and chicken stock. I bought one of each to give them a try.

I started out using Swanson's but since have gone to using Kitchen Basics unsalted. wonder if this new is comparable to them, let us in on the results. thanks I sometimes make my own chicken stock, but freezing it seems to take away from the taste as from the fresh, this basics is good for a box type broth.

prepared with passion and served with love !

I never bought Swanson's broth. I normally either use the kitchen basics or Emeril's stock. But since they have decided to branch out into the stock I figured I would give them a try.

    Homemade is always best.

I saw the beef stock when I went to the store this past week, but the shelf was empty of the chicken. Guess it's good since it was sold out! Was needing to get some chicken, so settled for their low salt chicken broth.

I think Swanson stock has been in small cans for a while now. I've bought it from time to time.

But can someone please answer this question for me? What is the difference betwen stock and broth? Aren't they both the same?

No that's broth in the cans, stock is different. Broth is from meat drippings. Stock uses the bones.

Yeah, I've made stock many times before - both beef bones or chicken bones. But I bought it as well.

Then I hardly ever make broth because any drippings that come from things like steaks, roasts, chops and other pan-fried meats are usually used for making gravy.

Emeril and Wolfgang Puck also have meat stock out with their names on the carton. This was about a year ago when I bought a couple of them. Wolfgang's was cheaper than Emeril's, so I bought Wolfgang's instead.

There is also one that is advertised on the FN. Forgot the brand name though.

I buy Trader Joe's organic brand and Pacific Foods. Sometimes I will buy Kitchen Basics, when it goes on sale.

I saw in the coupon section of our Sunday paper that Progresso is now selling chicken and beef broth in a box.

    Interesting!

Maybe I'll try some of it.
