Tips for healther meals for 6 year old

I need help! My 6 year old son will eat very little "real" food unless it's fast food. He suddenly doesn't like chicken strips. He won't eat my hamburgers, let alone a roast with potatoes or anything else that may be healther or lower-fat. He would eat Doritos, popcorn, and candy all day if he could. He eats entirely too much fast food (his grandmother buys it for him). At least he prefers water over most soft drinks. I need some tips, tricks, and recipes to get him eating healthier! Melissa D'Arabian... I hope you win NFNS because I need your expertise on a daily basis!!!

You need to make the crap his grandma is buying him a special reward for doing something that he is ask to do, other wise he will become a fast food junkie. Using the rewards works because it is a form of behavior modification, but you have to be strong enough to get started, that means if he does not eat what you place in front of him, he gets nothing else, believe me they will not starve. You can find all kinds of information on behavior modification on the web, some you have to take with a grain of salt, others will be right on spot. Start with food you know he likes, then gradually add new stuff in, some he will enjoy and other stuff he just will not eat, goes that way at times but do not give up, be consistent, be firm, and make sure that all setting at the table are eating the food also. Some times I had to wait till the wife was not at home to introduce new food, and generally the boys loved it, now they eat stuff that she will not. Good luck and remember this is just my way of doing things, I have used it so I know it will work at least it did for mine.
