Sometimes if I really want a good pot of Chili, I will invest in the low and slow ingredients but I use canned beans mostly as a quick fix meal in the winter sometimes. Boy Scout night or out all day, makes it an easy meal once in a while. That and Tacos, but I usually go with tacos because they aren't as heavy and we get veggies on top ... usually fruit on the side.
Try this Spanish treat: For one can of garbanzos:
4-strips of bacon cut into 1" chuncks and cook almost crisp- keep 2 spoonful of the fat
1/2 - vidalia or spanish sweet onion - saute w/ the bacon
in the same pan : 1 can of garbanzos, drained
1/2 can of tomato sauce
2 large cooking spoon with ketsup
Stir, lower fire, cover for 15min. Stir ocasionally.
You may also add chorizos with the bacon.
Enjoy with white rice or alone Drizzle a little olive oil when served-(optional)
I use black, white, pinto, kidney, green beans, chickpeas....all kinds of canned beans. They are a staple in my pantry. Just love the black beans for all kinds of dishes. Even make a black bean hummus of sorts. Yum!
