What Can You Make With Canned Beans?

What Can You Make With Canned Beans?
New York Times - New York,NY,USA
Over at the Bitten blog, Mark Bittman is rethinking his bias against canned beans. It happened as a result of being hungry, and he decided to whip up some quick hummus using some canned chickpeas that had already passed their “use-by” date.
Using a food processor, he blended the beans with garlic, tahini, olive oil, half a lemon, balsamic vinegar, salt and pimenton.
...

A coworker told me about a salad she makes with a can of kidney beans, diced cucumber, diced red onion, chopped tomatoes mixed with a little mayo. Tasty!

I also buy canned chickpeas

Chick peas are a good canned product. Bush's baked beans are a good canned product as well, but not as good as mine!

Sometimes if I really want a good pot of Chili, I will invest in the low and slow ingredients but I use canned beans mostly as a quick fix meal in the winter sometimes. Boy Scout night or out all day, makes it an easy meal once in a while. That and Tacos, but I usually go with tacos because they aren't as heavy and we get veggies on top ... usually fruit on the side.

Try this Spanish treat: For one can of garbanzos:
4-strips of bacon cut into 1" chuncks and cook almost crisp- keep 2 spoonful of the fat
1/2 - vidalia or spanish sweet onion - saute w/ the bacon
in the same pan : 1 can of garbanzos, drained
1/2 can of tomato sauce
2 large cooking spoon with ketsup
Stir, lower fire, cover for 15min. Stir ocasionally.
You may also add chorizos with the bacon.
Enjoy with white rice or alone Drizzle a little olive oil when served-(optional)

I use black, white, pinto, kidney, green beans, chickpeas....all kinds of canned beans. They are a staple in my pantry. Just love the black beans for all kinds of dishes. Even make a black bean hummus of sorts. Yum!
