    Paula Deen's Walmart baked goods.

I finally ventured out to the Walmart in search of the new Paula items. I decided on the Gooey Butter Cake and an Apple Pie. So far I have only sampled the gooey butter cake. It kind of reminds me of eating unbaked sugar cookie dough. You can feel a bit of the crunchy grit of the sugar as you chew. It's actually better than that description probably sounds to most people. If you like cookie dough you will probably like the gooey butter cakes. I thought it tasted good, but I couldn't eat a lot of it at one setting because it is very rich. I will let you know about the pie once we give it a try.

I think that Gooey, Butter Cake recipe is available online. I would think you could make one that tasted better.

She made one of those cakes on today's show. It had toffee bits in the topping.

The Gooey butter cake was small. I don't know if they sell bigger versions or not, but since I am just sampling to see what they are like it was good for me. The pie ... well you have to buy a whole pie. I can't remember the last time I bought any store bought pastries though so I might not be the best person to give the review, I can't compare it to other brands.

the pie was the most disgusting pie I ever tasted. I cannot believe Paula knows what is being marketed with her face and name on it. It had the flavor and texture of chunky apple flavored snot smeared on soggy white bread with a thin ribbon of some kind of slime that resembled cake batter. It tasted like I scraped it up off the floor.

From the description of the cake it is not something I would even try. I might try the pecan rum pie. But the fudge pie just looks gross. I am trying to find some way of actually getting in touch with Paula to let her know about these things---it could ruin her reputation.

Don't. I had one bite of it and that was enough.

Pre-baked goods like that are never like homemade. You can taste the preservatives and they always have a horrible texture.

There is only one exception I can think of and that is Sara Lee Pound Cake in the freezer section.

this was not even in the same universe as a homemade pie. and I did not expect it to be. but with Paula's face on the lid I did expect it to be a little bit better than a Hostess or Little Debbie Snack Pie I can get at the gas station! I have had store bakery brands 100 times better than this. It really tasted bad and it was barely cooked.

I thought the apple pie had too much lemon flavor. Almost like a lemon meringue pie with apples in it.
