When I was at the grocery store the other day, I started checking out other people's carts.

Ahem, no Paula in site, so she couldn't be blamed for the woman who had every conceivable frozen, junk food, cookies, and quick fix, calorie loaded items in her cart.

I so wanted to ask her if she knew there was a produce department in the store! But then, her cart was so full, she'd had no where to put anything else.

Wonder what her family looks like?

Sadly, very true. It is not the same world that we grew up in.

TV was a family thing and sometimes we would get to watch Saturday morning cartoons while we ate our breakfast. Then, we were out the door.

Those were great times.
And it was a black & white TV with tubes in the back, and a rabbit ear antena.

"Lucy, you got some splainin to do!"

And the variety shows were a must see....Ed Sullivan, Lawrence Welk, Carol Burnett....game shows were very big....I've Got a Secret, What's My Line, Beat the Clock...and Price Is Right was very popular, but it was a panel with four people, Bill Cullen, I believe was the host. Not anything like today's version.

Cyberdoc, do you remember "Queen for a Day"? Women would tell their sad stories to win a refrigerator or some appliance. Then she was crowned and draped in a robe. That show would not work today unless it was a parody on SNL!

Yes I do remember Queen for a Day. I remember watching the Beatles debut on "a really great shoo" . ;-) Lawernce Welk was a Saturday night staple. And Bill Cullen was in more game shows than Carter has pills. Carol was the best. I used to love watching Tim crack everyone else up. Poor Harvey was putty in his hands.

The game shows were great, let's not forget Password. and Candid Camera, and Art Linkletter were classics as well.

Bet not too many here have heard that phrase, "Than Carters has pills". That is one I recall my mother and grandmother using when we were growing up. And, yes, I do remember "Carter's Little Liver" pills.

Wonder where that phrase came from?

Yes, I bet you're right. That was one of my Grandmother's favorite sayings.

I guess Carter put out a lot of those little liver pills.

When I was a kid I always thought that meant Jimmy Carter. I didn't know any other Carters. Although I never did quite understand why he had so many liver pills.

No my friend, that reference pre-dates Jimmy by quite some time. Besides, he did peanuts, not liver pills. Not that there is anything wrong with farming peanuts. I did a Spring of peanut farming on my uncle's farm in Georgia when I was a wee lad of 18. Hard work does a wee lad good.

Who me? I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about.

My mom used to use the "More_____ than Carters has pills" when I was kid. I just remember wondering why the heck Jimmy Carter had so many pills!

Hey BerryBaby - clearly Paula was hiding out in the store somewhere & whenever that poor unsuspecting mother had her back turned, Paula was just a'fillin' that cart with junk. You gotta watch her, she's sneaky like that. When I ate at her restaurant & went to leave, I found out she had filled my purse with butter & cookies. I don't know how I didn't catch her.
