Rep Power: 10 | Tips for a First Time Cook There is a few nights a week that its just me, my brother, and Dad for dinner. A month or two ago I saw this receipe on food network and saved it and I thought its something that I could try making for us so we don't have to eat out or out of a box every week. BUT I've really never cooked, so I'm a little nervous that I really might not be able to do it. It says the difficulty is easy, but I don't know how to cook so I'm intimidated. Any thoughts or tips on this? I don't know that I'd do the pineapple because I'm not sure it would get eaten, but the meat sounds so good. Quote:

Show: Food Network Specials
Episode: All-Star Grillfest: South Beach
1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak, cut into 1/4-inch strips
3/4 cup soy sauce
1/2-inch slice fresh ginger
1 clove garlic, minced
1 1/2 teaspoons brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1 pineapple, peeled and sliced lengthwise
1 tablespoon chiffonade or thinly sliced mint leaves
Combine soy sauce, ginger, garlic, sugar and water. Marinate meat in the mixture in a plastic bag overnight in the refrigerator.
Preheat the grill to high heat. Skewer meat on skewers. Cook over hot coals until done to your liking, about 4 to 5 minutes for medium rare.
Place pineapple slices on grill. Cook on both sides until there are grill marks and the natural sugars have helped it to brown, about 2 minutes per side.
Place beef skewers on top of grilled pineapple slices and garnish with mint.

Rep Power: 10 | If you can find a flat iron steak I bet it would be awesome with this and you could probably marinade it and grill it with out slicing first. If you don't want to skewer it on top of the pineapple anyway you could just slice it into strips once it's done. |

I also found one for seasoned grilled fries by Bobby Flay that I could make with this. |

Rep Power: 10 | Sounds like it will be a good meal. If you do want to get another meat and cut it for the skewers make sure you cut it so the strands or grain of the meat is short. Think of it like a bunch of strands of spaghetti all stuck together, instead of cutting like you are cutting the noodles apart cut like you would be chopping it into tiny rice size pieces if it broke up. The meat should stay together though. |

Rep Power: 10 | I'll have to watch how my boss cuts meat at work.
I may have to wait a week or two before trying this. But I'm going to keep thinking how to do it. |

Rep Power: 10 | My sister did not cook and had no desire either. So, shortly after she moved out here I told her I was going to buy her a crockpot and show her how easy it was.
Well, she got hooked on the crockpot and the recipes I started her off with. Now, she not only cooks for herself, but has people over to share in her culinary skills, crockpot style!
It is a great tool for someone that doesn't know, or cares to, cook meals from scratch.

Rep Power: 10 | isilzha is going to be great when she gets started I am sure. You can't like the food network and not want to try out things you see.
My mom probably did too much for me. So once I had a husband ... then family to feed I enjoyed experimenting. |

Rep Power: 10 | I can't believe I started this thread exactly 1 year ago. Well I bought some ginger today to try this with, maybe next week when I'm done working at this reading clinic. The only thing is that I bought powdered ginger and not a piece of ginger to slice (because I wouldn't know what to do with a whole thing of it).
