We use to have a parade like that in the town I grew up in....it was called "Decoration Day" and held on Memorial Day.

Just children decorating their bikes or wagons, getting dressed up in funny costumes and dressing their pets.

We had a ball!

It went on for years after I was a child. Then, I turned to my younger sister and dressed her up.

Think I was 16 when I dressed her up as "Mother Earth". Had her wagon filled with paper cups and plates, used napkins, and other waste paper. Put a globe in the middle and had sign which read, "Save Our Mother Earth".

Was I ahead of the times....yes, by about over 40 years! Guess you could say I was one of the original recycling advocates.

My grandmother always called Memorial day "decoration day" too.

That was what we called it when I was growing up, Decoration Day because usually was the weekend we planted most of the garden, flowers, some time was the first time we would mow the lawn, generally cleanup after winter but that was in Michigan. The weekend before you would see every one in the grave yard cleaning, putting out flowers, mowing and putting out the flags. Now days it seems to have lost its meaning, when they started moving holidays to Mondays to get a long weekend, it lost the feeling of something special for me. I wish they would have never done that.

Me, too. Somethings should just stay as they are, especially holidays.
