Last week I was channel surfing and briefly stopped on Rachael's talk show. She was making different soups. I just about lost it when she garnished her chicken soup with POPCORN. Opened a big bag and sprinkled pieces about it. Yuk! Every soup she had to top it with something. Whatever happened to croutons or just plain saltines?

That could be bad if you hit an old maid.

I saw them do the same thing on another show, they used popcorn as a substitute for crackers I believe. I forget which channel it was, but it wasn't food network.

No, it still doesn't sound good to me. Popcorn, in my book, is just eaten by itself.

Although, when I was in high school, my home ec teacher told us she would eat popcorn with milk on it for breakfast. She said they were college students and didn't have any money so this was their filler food. I guess if you pop it plain and sprinkle a little sugar over it, it could taste like puffed rice or something like that.

Still, I'd rather have it with a little butter and salt.

That's actually how corn flakes got started. They served popped popcorn in milk started by Harvey Kellogg at the Battlecreek Sanitarium and he tried marketing it as a breakfast cereal to the public. People weren't interested in popped corn in a box so he developed a way to process it into flakes, the rest as they say is history.

I thought I remember hearing on FN that cereal had something to do with the seventh day adventists as well.

I believe Dr. Kellogg followed that as well. He had those at the sanitarium follow a vegetarian diet because of it. I did a report on him in school years ago I remember something about a reason for the vegetarian choice he made. I guess I should look it up.
