Lip Smackin' BBQ Sauce.

Ok guys, here it is! My Lip Smackin' BBQ sauce!!

Ingredients;

4 Tblsp conola or vegatable oil.

2 small onions, red or regualr, finely chopped.

1 green pepper cored and finely chopped (optional).

1 - 2 stalks celery finely chopped (optional).

3 garlic cloves finely chopped.

1 lemon juiced.

1 cup brown sugar, packed.

1/2 cup cider vinegar.

1 cup ketchup*.

2 Tblsp worcestershire sauce.

1 tsp hot pepper sauce (Chipotle Tabasco sauce works great for this recipe and will greatly enhance smoky flavor).

1/2 tsp chili powder.

Dash of liquid smoke flavor (optional).

Directions;

On stovetop in medium sauce pot, over medium high heat, heat oil until hot. Add chopped onion green pepper and celery (trinity) and chopped garlic. Saute until mixture is softened, almost transparent and lightly browned.

Stir in remaining ingredients and simmer gently for about 5 minutes. I usually let it go longer than that, at least about 30 minutes to slightly reduce it and let it thicken.

*Do not add salt to this without tasting it first! The salt that's in the ketchup will usually balance out the flavor. You can double or triple this recipe if you like. i always do so that I don't have to make it so often.

It keeps well in the fridge. Just change the container from time to time so that the sauce around the edges of the container doesn't dry out. I use one of those 1/2-gallon Gladware plastic containers to keep it in.

Brush onto your favorite BBQ'd meats. Store remainder in fridge. Enjoy!

Just might try that, but no liquid smoke...

That's an option anyway.

You can tailor this recipe to your liking. It is very forgiving and if some or any of the stuff that's optinal isn't used, it won't hurt.

I just like to add a little bit more than what it calls for. To me, the more, the merrier. Like my dad used to say.

I like the smoky taste and flavor.

I like the smokey taste as well. just never been a fan of the liquid stuff, and I tried using the hec out of it. Had a mister in my smoke house but went back to the wood. I don't know, it seemed to leave a film in my mouth no matter how little I would use.

I put some of it on the meats too because I don't have an outdoor grill.

I'm using my Rival BBQ Pit Crock Pot Countertop Slow Cooker right now, to slow-roast a fresh pork shoulder that I marinated overnght. One of the things I put on it was some liquid smoke to give it that authentic real down-home smoky flavor and taste!
