anyone here tried the "Amish Friendship Bread"?

A friend gave me this bag of fermented stuff. She gave me a loaf of the finished bread (more like cake) and it was really good. I looked up a recipe online and found one that didn't include pudding mix, like that is an Amish ingredient

I think that I have worked out a system so that I can bake this bread once in a while and not have to find people to give it to, it is kinda like a chain letter for bakers!

My cousin brought some to us for Thanksgiving one time. She brought the one that was cooked and it was really good. It had lots of cinnamon and sugar in it, and she also gave us the bag of stuff to make our own and pass on. Except we never did and eventually tossed it out.

I love the bread, but I don't want to be always dealing with maintenance! I froze some of the mix for another cake and a small bag to start the process over if I am feeling like it.

I had never heard of it, so off to Google I went. At first, when you where talking about it, I though maybe it was kind of like Moravian Sugar Cake because of the cinnamon and sugar in it, but I see it's not. I found this one blog where people were using the starter for other things like muffins and pancakes. The lady who writes the blog had made a chocolate banana Amish friendship bread. Sounds good and I might have to try making some.

The blog I was telling you about has some good ideas what you can do with the starter... just don't put it near a heating vent like one person did, because after being there for a few days it exploded. Stop the Ride!: Chocolate Banana Amish Friendship Bread

I remember when sour dough bread starter was all the rage. It was similar and you had to keep the stuff going by adding to it, I think. That was a 70's thing.
