TMZ Is On Chef Robert

"Impossible" Chef Caught in Very Possible Lies

Posted Feb 18th 2008 6:10PM by TMZ Staff
The hard-ass British chef who stars in Food Network's "Dinner: Impossible" is finding that spinning tall tales about one's background is no cakewalk -- and now the network says it's investigating his alleged misrepresentations. Oh, deah.

Robert Irvine has claimed all over the place that he'd helped design Prince Charles and Princess Di's wedding cake, among other things. But after an oddly thorough investigation by the St. Petersburg Times, Irvine admits he didn't really bake it -- or have anything to do with it ... and that's just the icing.

"It's unfortunate if Robert embellished the extent of his culinary experiences," said a Food Network rep. "We are investigating the matter and taking the necessary steps to ensure the accuracy of all representations of Robert on Food Network and foodnetwork.com."

Irvine had no further comment today.

Don't buy into anything TMZ says, that tabloid crap is just that.

I did find it a bit odd when he said on one of the shows that he hadn't baked anything other than the royal wedding cake. Why would someone with no baking skills have been chosen for that role.

The St. Petersburg Times isn't a tabloid but a legitimate newspaper. Sounds as though they've dispelled just about every claim Robert has made. It is sad he couldn't have presented himself as simply an excellent chef, that he felt he needed to embellish his accomplishments.

I'm sure if many of the FN personalities would be investigated many of their claims would be refuted too.

It's like when people embellish their resumes. Not an uncommon thing, from my past experience hiring people.

Regardless of what is true and what isn't, he has a huge fan base and I don't think this will change it much.

He seems very good at what he does, his show is one of the few evening shows I really like. I did wonder how he could have done so much at his age especially since he served in the military. It just didn't seem like he had enough years of life for it all. I hope he can prove them wrong though.

Berry Baby, what did you do when you found an inflated resume? Did it automatically disqualify the applicant from the job? And what happened if the person was already in the job when his lies were discovered?

It's interesting that he's pulled all of those quotes from his website and FTV as removed his chef's profile too.
Maybe TMZ hit this nail on the head.

I wonder if maybe the Food Network could have hyped him up a bit? They mention all those things in the opening segment of the show. Maybe is was just to make him seem more exciting on their part and get more people interested in watching.

I never listened to any of that stuff in the beginning of the show. My knowledge of his background was basically "royal navy". Didn't he come out with a book recently though? How were the things that they are now saying aren't true handled in the book?
